AsterClick hiring for a CEF project.

Howdy all.

We have an open source project called AsterClick, related to Asterisk Telephony and
an HTML5 interface for controlling the Asterisk server via HTML5 WebSockets.

The AsterClick open source project is looking to hire someone to create a generic
desktop application that embeds the Google Chrome browser as the application area,
and loads a browser application from an optionally AES128 encrypted file.

This is a telecommute , contract gig with some ongoing possibilities.
So if you have been working with CEF for fun , perhaps here
you could work with it for a little profit!

Check out the gig at AsterClick

This is an open source project , so our pockets are not bottomless , but
we have scared up a little corporate funding from the Asterisk industry.

What platform(s) does your proposed application need to support?

Well, it needs to support windows, but it is strongly desired that the application
be as OS agnostic as possible, so as not to end up with a bunch of work
in maintaining different OS versions as we go forward.

In the end we would like to have Windows,Linux and Apple.

Personally, all my computers are Linux, so it would be handy
even as a windows app, if it could fly at least in wine.

One can find out a little detail about the project at http://asterclick.drclue.net/

This is of course an open source project , so you won't be able to retire
to a tropical island on the pay, but none the less the project has
attracted some bits of funding from the Asterisk community.

What functionality or interface do you see yourself needing (other than the potential encryption) that cannot be accomplished with HTML5? If the complete application is HTML5 and you don't need special access to the host computer then Chrome app mode or xulrunner might be options worth considering.

The application may well at one point (all too soon) be incorporating features beyond the
encryption aspects that would indeed fall outside of HTML5. These features
are desired by the sponsors of the project , so I'm not going to argue too
much with them about it as without their sponsorship I would not have been able to
carry the project this far.

Of course , whoever does the browser embedding work will probably get first
crack at incorporating the additional non-browser functions.

Actually I was the one who championed the idea of exploiting HTML5 WebSockets,
wrote the server side WebSockets server , the Asterisk AMI middleware, as well
as the client side JavaScript libraries and convinced the sponsors to
make pretty much all of this stuff an open source project.

The idea in my mind has always included an embedded browser option
for those (especially potential sponsors) who while willing to underwrite
or otherwise participate in the AsterClick open source project , still desire a more packaged
option that can integrate features that are a little outside the boundaries of the
main AsterClick project itself, and yes even outside HTML5.

Some of these options could in my opinion be implemented in the web space ,
while others would at present best be served outside the browser space.
Now depending on how things shake out with the ongoing efforts of hicks and the whatwg
some things may at one point roll back into the browser space , but not all.

So yes , other options have been considered , but this approach seems to offer the
the widest range of options going forward.
