Licensing?

Postby rlscef » Wed Apr 07, 2010 6:54 pm

I'm looking for something I can incorporate in my customer's application, to render HTML and SVG on a Windows platform.
My understanding is that CEF is essentially a wrapper around Chromium, providing an API that might fit my bill nicely.

I do need to know, though:

1) If I use the Windows CEF binary, is everything I need to distribute going to be covered by the BSD license? Or are there third-party elements that might trip me up?

2) Also, I notice that when I run the cefclient.exe that's part of cef_binary_r66_VS2005.zip, any attempt to browse to an http scheme URL results in "Load of http://...whatever... failed with error code -336". Is that expected behavior? Is the http scheme not implemented somehow?

Not everything provided with the CEF binary distribution is BSD licensed. You can see the licensing terms for all components of CEF and Chromium here:
http://code.google.com/chromium/terms.html

I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that everything provided as part of the CEF binary distribution can be redistributed with third-party applications without violating license terms. If you need a definitive answer you should consult legal council.

I believe this problem is fixed with the most recent binary distribution (revision 76). Please test and let me know if you're still experiencing problems.

Thanks. I just downloaded 76 and it works fine.

I'll look into the licensing. Thanks for the pointer!
