CefFrame::Copy() problem

I'm using the sub-process model.
When I call browser->GetFocusedFrame()->Copy() to copy selected text to the clipboard, I've found that I have to do a number of calls to CefDoMessageLoopWork() before the text is available on the clipboard. Is there a definitive way to know when the text is available? Or a way to force the call to be synchronous?
